Yellow Eel

These yellow eels are decorative sculptures made of seed beads, wire and thread. They are flexible and can be made to take a variety of poses without doing them any harm; although they are not toys and won't survive exessive rough handling.

The European eel has a complicated life cycle, travelling vast distances over the course of their 15-20 year long lives. Starting out as leptocephali (leaf-head) larvae in the ocean, they grow into glass eels living around coasts, then move upstream and loose their transparency as elvers. They live most of their lives in fresh and brackish waters as yellow eels, before maturing into silver eels and journeying out to the sargasso sea.
